Gas Turbine Inlet Air Cooling -
Combustion Turbine Inlet Air Cooling (CTIAC)
::
Systems are used to increase the air flow rate which correspondingly increases the power
output of many of today's turbines.
The volumetric flow of most turbines is
constant and therefore by increasing the mass flow, power increases in an inverse
proportion to the temperature of the inlet air.
Typically increases in the neighborhood
of 15% can be achieved with a 20ºF reduction in inlet air temperature. The increased mass
flow also decreases the rate of fuel consumption per MW produced.
MORE AIR = MORE
POWER
Evaporation cooling systems have proven to
be the most popular choice for inlet air cooling for many reasons.
The low capital cost, installation and
operating costs make it attractive for many turbine operating scenarios. This simple
cooling method makes it ideal for turbines that operate continuously to those that only
operate for a few hours a year for power reserves and peak deman periods.
